Terms of service
Last updated 8 October 2026.
These terms are between you and Iain Barclay, who trades as Boundsmap (“we”). They apply when you create an account or use Boundsmap. Signing in accepts them.
1. What Boundsmap is
Boundsmap helps you describe how an AI system is built, who is involved at each layer and where the boundaries between them fall, and shows what UK and EU law asks at each one. You write the description. Boundsmap reads it and builds a map from it. The findings come from a fixed set of rules, written by us and applied the same way every time.
2. What it is not
Boundsmap is not legal advice and is not a substitute for it. A map is self-assessed: it is only as accurate as the description and the answers you give, and it shows what the rules produce from them. It is not an audit, a certification or a statement that you comply with any law. We are not a law firm. If a decision matters, take advice from a qualified lawyer.
3. Who you are
You use Boundsmap for business. If you sign up for a business, you confirm you can accept these terms for it, and “you” then means that business. If you are an individual using Boundsmap outside your trade or profession, the rights the law gives you as a consumer stay with you.
4. Your account
You sign in with a link we email you. Keep your email account secure. You are responsible for what happens on your account. Tell us at hello@boundsmap.com if you think someone else has used it.
5. What you give us
You confirm you have the right to put into Boundsmap what you put into it. Describe roles (“our HR team”, “the model supplier”) rather than naming people, and do not put in anything you are not allowed to share. You keep your rights in your descriptions and maps. You give us permission to store them, to send the text to our AI provider to read it, and to show them back to you, as our privacy notice describes. If you challenge a finding, you give us permission to read what you send. You may use your maps in your own business, including to show customers and advisers.
6. Findings can be wrong
The AI model that reads your description can misread it, and the rules can be wrong or out of date, because the law changes. Check what a map says against your own system and against the sources it cites. We do not promise that a map is complete, correct or fit for any particular purpose. If you think a finding is wrong, press “Challenge this finding”.
7. Plans
Explorer is free. It includes one map you can edit, and a number of reads a month, as shown on the pricing page at the time. Pro and Teams are set up by request. Asking for a plan on the pricing page does not create a paid plan. A paid plan starts only when we confirm it to you by email with its price and what it includes. We do not take payment through Boundsmap today. If a paid plan ends, your maps stay and become read-only, and you choose one to keep editable. We delete nothing because a plan ended.
8. Prices and changes
The free plan, and the limits and prices shown on the pricing page, may change. We will tell you by email at least 30 days before a change that makes things worse for you, and you can stop using Boundsmap or delete your account before it starts. If you start a plan at a launch price, you keep that price for as long as your plan continues.
9. Our responsibility
We are not liable for: loss that is not a direct and foreseeable result of our breach; loss of profit, revenue, contracts or goodwill; or loss resulting from you acting on a map without checking it. Our total liability to you for everything under these terms is limited to the greater of £100 and what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or anything else the law does not allow us to limit.
10. Using Boundsmap properly
Do not misuse it: do not try to get round the limits, scrape the rules, put in anything unlawful, or use it in a way that breaches our AI provider’s usage policy. Do not sign up repeatedly to get more free maps. We may suspend an account to stop misuse, and will tell you why unless the law stops us.
11. Our rights
Boundsmap, its rules and its text belong to us. You may use what it produces for your business. You may not sell or republish the rules themselves.
12. Ending
You can delete your account at any time on your account page. That deletes your maps and email address as the privacy notice describes. We can end your account if you break these terms, or end the free plan, with at least 30 days’ notice by email unless the law, or a serious breach, means we must act sooner. If the free plan ends, the coded record the privacy notice mentions is deleted.
13. Service
Boundsmap is run by one person and depends on other companies’ services. We aim to keep it available but do not promise it will be available at any time or error-free, and we are not responsible for outages outside our control.
14. Other terms
These terms and the privacy notice are the whole agreement about Boundsmap. They bind you and us and nobody else. We can transfer our rights and responsibilities under them to a business that takes over Boundsmap, and will tell you if so. English law applies, and the courts of England and Wales decide disputes.
